Dr. Rakhshi Memon

Dr Rakhshi Memon is a Research Fellow at University College London, UK. She has a PhD in bioethics from University College London, UK. Her main area of interest is equipoise with a focus on culture and research ethics. She has extensive experience working with research teams in the UK and Canada and Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Her background is in the NHS specialising in improvement sciences with a particular focus on change management and human dimensions of change. Her expertise is in applying Theories of Change (ToC) approach when working on projects in LMIC. Rakhshi trained as a ToC facilitator over seven years ago and have facilitated ToC workshops for NGOs and researchers in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Canada, India, Nigeria, UAE and Turkey. In the UK, she has facilitated numerous workshops on community engagement and research projects with British South Asian and Black African and Caribbean populations. At Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning (PILL), she chairs the Global Ethics Learning Hub (GEHL) with the aim of developing capacity and capability in clinical governance and research ethics. She has conducted a series of ethics and governance training programmes both in Pakistan and partner LMIC and have developed learning networks in Pakistan and globally to facilitate North-South and South-South learning. She also chairs the Community Engagement and Involvement Group (CEIG) at PILL, which is working towards a CEI model for LMIC, co-produced with Lived Experience Experts (LEE) in Pakistan and LMIC partner countries. Rakhshi is passionate about using the vehicle of education to promote equality and fairness.

Dr Rakhshi Memon is the Director of Manchester Global Foundation (MGF) which is a Not for Profit, UK registered charity providing technical expertise, consultancy, policy development, evaluation, and advisory services to a range of clients, nationally and internationally with a philanthropic focus on developing research capacity and capability in LMIC and ethnic minorities in the UK. She is also a trustee of UK Association of Medical Aid to Pakistan (UKMAP), a UK registered, UK based charity working on clean water projects, reducing incidence of hepatitis B & C, sponsoring midwives and medical students and emergency and disaster relief.
