A Multidisciplinary Program For Burns Management, Treatment & Prevention In Low Income Countries

THE CHINAR TREE in
Pakistan is a symbol of
resilience

Worldwide, burns are responsible for around 11 million injuries and 265,00 burn-related deaths each year. Unfortunately, 9 out of 10 burn injuries and deaths happen in low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) such as Pakistan.

One in three people admitted to hospitals with burn injuries die within three weeks, and survivors face serious lifelong physical, emotional and social problems. Current preventive methods in practice and treatment services in Pakistan are lacking for burns-related problems. Therefore, there is an urgent need to improve the quality of health services for burn victims and reduce the rate of burns in Pakistan.

Research Aims

Proposal and Partnership Development Award (PPDA)

The Proposal and Partnership Development Award (PPDA) has supported the involvement of helpless and neglected burns patients, and public members in different workshops to help us with this application. We will continue with engaging patient and members of public. We plan to share plain language information about our work using radio, internet, website, newsletters, social media, conferences and reports. Dr. Nasim Chaudhry and Dr. Maria Panagioti will regularly manage and meet the research team to guide them regarding responsibilities of the study, and of the significance of the ethics (fairness and honesty) in our work.
